Shift a song into a new key

The Practice Looper can move a song into another key, up or down by as many as 12 semitones, one semitone at a time. The tempo stays exactly where it was.

Practice Looper, where pitch shifting lives

Why shift the pitch

  • Bring a song into a singer's range.
  • Play along with a recording that is tuned a half step down, without retuning.
  • Practice a tune in every key, one semitone at a time.
  • Match a recording to a horn or a capo position.

Pitch and speed are independent

Shifting the pitch does not change the speed, and changing the speed does not change the pitch. Use both together to slow a song down and move it into your key at the same time, and let the track remember its default speed and pitch.

Transpose a chord chart too

Chord charts in the Library have their own transpose buttons, so the chart on the stand can follow the recording into the new key.

Questions

How far can I shift a song?
